MAine Student book awards
Each year, the fifth grade students of Cascade Brook School are invited to read books from the Maine State Book Awards list. This year I have opened it up for fourth grade students too! These are newly published books, hand-selected by a committee of Maine librarians as the best of the best.
Typically, voting takes place the last week of March. The state-wide winning book is announced in April at the annual Maine State Library's Reading Round-Up Conference in Augusta. The 2021-2022 winner was the book Primer by Jennifer Muro. I can't wait to find out which book will be chosen this year!
The three students who read the most MSBA books will receive a prize at the end of the school year. Also, students receive a prize for every 5 books read.
Students who read 20 or more books from the list qualify as Star Students and may choose to be featured on the Maine Student Book Award site! See Mrs. French for details. You can see Star Student readers around the state here.
